VNV Nation & The Babelsberg Film Orchestra - Resonance

Resonance stands as one of the most singular achievements in VNV Nation's catalog: a full reimagining of some of the band's best loved songs, stripped of synthesizers and studio instrumentation entirely and rebuilt from the ground up for orchestra and voice alone. Ronan Harris had drawn on classical composition as inspiration for years, and this album, originally released in 2015, was the culmination of that long-standing pull toward the orchestral world finally becoming reality.

To make it happen, VNV Nation recorded with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra inside its historic studios in Potsdam, working steps away from the same soundstage where Fritz Lang shot Metropolis nearly a century earlier. Tracks like "Nova," rendered here in two distinct movements, "Legion," and "Beloved" are transformed into sweeping, cinematic pieces, each given a tempo marking as though pulled from a classical score. The result trades VNV's usual electronic pulse for something closer to a film score in search of its film, majestic and unhurried, letting the strings and voice carry the weight the synths once did.

This edition marks the album's first appearance on 12" vinyl, pressed with a striking gold hot foil stamped sleeve that suits the material's grandeur. For a record this meticulously made, recorded and mastered at some of the best studios available, this is the format its scale has been waiting for.
