The Linda Lindas - Gotta Get Out [Indie Exclusive]

The Linda Lindas have been growing up in public since a library performance of "Racist, Sexist Boy" went everywhere in 2021. Gotta Get Out is their third album and their first for Reprise, and it is the record where the Los Angeles four-piece stop being described as a teenage band and start simply being a band.

The songs are looser and more confident than anything on Growing Up or No Obligation. "Closer" features Hayley Williams of Paramore and was the album's first single, a burst of harmony and guitar that makes the generational handoff explicit. "Not How I Hoped" got its own video and sits at the heart of the record, and "Helado de Limón" continues the band's habit of slipping between English and Spanish without ceremony.

All four members write and all four sing, which is still the most interesting thing about them. Bela Salazar, Eloise Wong, Lucia de la Garza and Mila de la Garza trade lead vocals across the album, and the result is a record with four distinct personalities rather than one frontperson and a backing group. The playing is scrappier and more alive than the polish of a major label debut would suggest.
