Chaos, the debut album from The Baby Seals, is a high-energy sonic blast that blends heavy guitars, a pop edge, and a punk rock garage spirit. Raw, immediate, and full of attitude, the record captures the band’s live intensity with a fierce and unfiltered approach.
Comprised of Amy “Amos” Devine (drums, backing vocals), Kate Shore (bass, backing vocals), and Kerry Devine (guitar, lead vocals), the trio delivers a collection that feels both powerful and deeply personal.
Recorded in March 2023 in Thaxted, just outside Essex, Chaos embodies the band’s DIY ethos. Working with engineer Joe in a secluded outhouse surrounded by fields, the album was tracked live in a single day, preserving the grit and spontaneity of their sound. Joe’s collection of homemade pedals adds a distinctive texture, while Benny T’s mixing brings everything into sharp focus without sacrificing that raw edge. Minimal post-production sets Chaos apart, highlighting the band’s growth while staying true to their roots.
On the album, Kerry Devine shares:
“Chaos is the next phase in life for us lasses in the band—babies and mid-life responsibilities. The album is about how we feel and experience the world around us in our 30s and 40s. Someone said it sounds like The Baby Seals have grown up, and I liked that—because that’s exactly how it feels.”
The album explores themes of inclusivity, gender inequality, the mental load, motherhood, power, body positivity, and liberation—balancing what matters most with what’s worth letting go.
