Taylor Swift - Midnights [Mahogany]

Announced from the stage at the 2022 VMAs and released that October, Midnights is Taylor Swift's tenth studio album and the one she framed as thirteen sleepless nights across her life. It moved more than a million copies in its first week, occupied the entire top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously, and went on to win Album of the Year at the 2024 Grammys, her fourth in that category.

Made almost entirely with Jack Antonoff, the record trades the acoustic textures of the Folklore era for muted synths, programmed drums, and vocals treated until they sit somewhere just behind the mix. "Anti-Hero" turned self-loathing into a number one single with one of the most quoted choruses of the decade. "Maroon" and "Labyrinth" are the album's quiet centers. "Vigilante Shit" and "Karma" carry the sharpest edges, and "You're On Your Own, Kid" delivers a bridge that has become a live centerpiece.

It is a late-night record in the truest sense, and it works best played the way it was written, alone and after everyone else has gone to bed.
