Squarepusher - Stereotype [CD]

In 1994 a teenage Tom Jenkinson pressed up a record under the name Stereotype in tiny numbers and crammed nearly an hour of music onto a single 12-inch. It is now widely considered the earliest full-length Squarepusher work, made before the name existed, and until now it had never been issued on CD or digitally in any form. Warp finally brought it back on October 24, 2025, remastered from the original tapes.

What you get is Jenkinson before the jazz fusion detours and before anyone was calling him a genius: an hour of raw, dancefloor-facing material shaped by pirate radio and rave culture, hardware pushed hard, breakbeats chopped with the fearlessness of someone who has not yet heard a rule worth following. It runs as a companion piece to Feed Me Weird Things, recorded around the same period but not released until Rephlex picked it up in 1996, and hearing the two side by side reframes that debut as the polished sibling rather than the starting point.

For a catalog as heavily documented as Squarepusher's, an entire lost album surfacing thirty years later is a genuine event. The original pressing has been a collector white whale for decades, and the sound quality on the cramped one-disc cut was always the compromise. That problem is now solved.

This CD edition presents the full album remastered and complete, the first time it has ever existed in the format, with sleeve art updated to include rare photos, flyers, and musical notation pulled from the Squarepusher archives. The missing first chapter, finally readable.
