Spoon - They Want My Soul

Originally released in 2014, They Want My Soul marked a triumphant return for Spoon following a four-year hiatus. It was a pivotal moment that saw the band—Britt Daniel, Jim Eno, Rob Pope, and Eric Harvey—welcoming multi-instrumentalist Alex Fischel into the fold and collaborating with producers Joe Chiccarelli and Dave Fridmann. The result was a "bulletproof" collection of tracks like the celestial "Inside Out," the rhythmic punch of "Rent I Pay," and the infectious pop of "Do You."

This Deluxe More Soul Edition, reissued by Matador Records, celebrates the album's legacy by pairing the original 10-track masterpiece with an entire second LP of 11 demos and alternate versions. Almost all of these extra tracks were previously unreleased, offering a rare "glimpse at the creative process" of a band famous for their meticulous editing and dignity. This reissue reaffirms Spoon's status as one of the few acts capable of maintaining a high-quality output for decades without ever taking a "corny left turn."
