Saving Grace is the first album from Robert Plant’s new band of seasoned players, a group he describes as creating a song book for the lost and found. The project began during lockdown in the English countryside, when Plant’s usual travel was halted and he found himself connecting deeply with a circle of musicians who shared his love for evocative, timeless song traditions.
Featuring vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, multi-instrumentalist Matt Worley and cellist Barney Morse Brown, Saving Grace has spent six years evolving into a wide ranging workshop of styles. Together they bring new energy to centuries-old material arranged by Plant, Saving Grace and Sam Amidon, as well as more recent gems by artists like Memphis Minnie, Bob Mosley, Blind Willie Johnson, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind and Low’s Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk.
The album captures a band moving with joy, curiosity and abandon, breathing fresh life into songs shaped by history, tradition and Plant’s ever-restless musical spirit.
