For almost twenty years, Strange Kind of Paradise was the great lost Red Lorry Yellow Lorry album. Recorded during the Leeds post-punk band's reunion era and promised on limited CDs sold at their 2015 shows, it sat unreleased in the vaults until COP International finally brought it out in July 2025, billed as the final chapter of a story that began in 1981.
Nothing about it sounds like a museum piece. The Lorries' trademark attack is all here: two guitars clawing at each other, rhythms that churn relentlessly forward, and Chris Reed's unmistakable voice working through lyrics about broken promises, corrupt systems and the search for meaning in the wreckage. "Walking on Air" led the way as the first single, and the album also carries "Driving Black," the title track of the EP that heralded its arrival in late 2024.
The record was engineered and produced by bassist Simon "Ding" Archer, whose credits include The Fall, and mastered by Stephen "SLam" Lam. For a band whose influence on goth and alternative rock always outran their sales, it is a fierce and fitting farewell rather than a victory lap.
This edition presents all ten tracks on a single vinyl LP. Essential for anyone who wore out Talk About the Weather.
