Pylon – Chomp [Remastered Reissue]
Label: New West Records
Format: LP
Originally released in 1983, Chomp marked a bold evolution for Athens, Georgia’s art-punk legends Pylon. Formed by University of Georgia art students, the band quickly earned critical acclaim for their angular rhythms, infectious energy, and conceptual edge—standing shoulder to shoulder with peers like R.E.M. and The B-52’s in shaping the sound of the South.
While their debut Gyrate was raw and immediate, Chomp saw Pylon pulling their music apart and rebuilding it into something more intricate and assured. It’s the sound of a group of self-proclaimed non-musicians gradually becoming a formidable creative force—embracing sharper melodies, tighter grooves, and a sharper sense of purpose without losing their off-kilter charm.
Now remastered from the original tapes and reissued by New West Records, this edition restores Chomp to its rightful place as a cornerstone of American post-punk and art rock. Fierce, vibrant, and utterly unique—Pylon’s influence continues to reverberate through generations of indie and alternative music.
