Originally released in 2002, In Absentia is the seventh studio album by Porcupine Tree and the first in a trilogy of records widely considered the band's artistic pinnacle. It marked a major shift in their sound, introducing a heavier, metal-influenced edge while maintaining the lush ambient textures and acoustic singer-songwriter elements of their previous work. Produced and mixed by Steven Wilson, the album served as a stylistic blueprint for a generation of progressive bands that followed.
This 2026 Reissue is presented as an Exclusive Double Clear Vinyl set in a gatefold cover, with artwork that remains faithful to the original 2002 release. The album features several of the band’s most iconic tracks, including the hard-hitting opener "Blackest Eyes," the intricate rhythmic interplay of "The Sound of Muzak," and the fan-favorite acoustic epic "Trains." It was also the first album to feature the powerhouse drumming of Gavin Harrison, whose technical precision redefined the band’s rhythmic foundation.
