This Mirror Weighs a Ton is Interpol's eighth studio album, their first in four years since 2022's The Other Side of Make-Believe, and their debut release for Partisan Records after years on other labels. Produced by Andrew Wyatt and mixed by Dave Fridmann, the album was recorded at Wyatt's New York studio, marking the first time in a decade the band tracked a record in their home state, a return of sorts that shapes the album's more inward-looking sensibility.
Across the record, reflection, distortion, and perception become a lens through which familiar Interpol shapes, the tense guitar interplay, the driving rhythm section, Paul Banks's detached baritone, are refracted into something slightly alien, as if seen through a different kind of light. Lead singles "This Mirror Weighs a Ton" and "See Out Loud" set that tone immediately, with "Iron City" following as a third preview that keeps the band's signature moodiness intact while pushing the production into more textured, unfamiliar territory.
Two decades removed from Turn on the Bright Lights, Interpol continue finding new ways to interrogate their own established sound rather than simply repeating it, and This Mirror Weighs a Ton reads as a band turning inward while still finding ways to move forward.
This indie and retail exclusive pressing comes as a 2LP on transparent red vinyl in a gatefold jacket, a striking physical edition of the band's newest chapter.
