Pixel Grip - Percepticide: The Death of Reality

Chicago's Pixel Grip have spent the better part of a decade dragging EBM, darkwave, and industrial techno into the same sweaty room, and their third album is the one where the whole thing finally locks. Released in June 2025 and put out entirely on their own, Percepticide takes its title from the political theorist's term for the killing of perception itself, which tells you roughly where Rita Lukea's head was at.

Lukea's vocal is the instrument here, moving from spoken menace to full-throated command inside a single bar. "Stamina" and "Crows Feast" are the club weapons, built on the kind of relentless sequencer pressure that Front 242 perfected and almost nobody has improved on since. "Reason To Stay" is two and a half minutes of pure hook. "Jealousy Is Lethal" and "Work Or Shut Up" are shorter, meaner, and closer to punk than to techno. Jonathon Freund and Tyler Ommen keep the low end physical and the arrangements lean, which is why the record works as well on headphones as it does at volume.

Twelve tracks, no filler, self-released by a band that clearly has no interest in waiting for permission. One of the strongest American industrial records in years.
