Pitch Black - Ape to Angel [CD]

New Zealand duo Pitch Black, Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson, have spent decades building a unique brand of dub that stretches across the whole map of electronic music. Ape to Angel, first released in 2004, was their breakthrough, the album that took them on a 42-date world tour that included their North American debut.

The sound is fuller and more driving than their earlier work, blending sinuous basslines, simmering rhythms and echoing acid synths around a deep dub heart. "Elements Turn" was their first fully vocal song, featuring singer Sandy Mill, while "Lost in Translation" samples Estonian satellite transmissions. "Freefall" found an audience well beyond the clubs when it was picked up for use on HBO's True Blood.

This expanded edition adds a full second disc of remixes from the likes of Bluetech, International Observer, Youth and peak_shift, previously collected on the Frequencies Fall set.
