Pink Turns Blue – If Two Worlds Kiss
Label: Dais Records | Format: Vinyl LP (Remastered, Limited Edition)
Originally released in 1987, If Two Worlds Kiss stands as a cornerstone of European darkwave—where punk dissonance meets shadowy romanticism. The debut album from Cologne’s Pink Turns Blue emerged from the underground with a sound that fused the icy atmospheres of post-punk with a melodic urgency that defied genre boundaries. Drawing inspiration from bands like Hüsker Dü (whose song “Pink Turns to Blue” gave them their name), the trio carved out a distinct voice in the emerging gothic landscape, defined by introspective lyricism, crisp drum machine rhythms, and shimmering, sorrow-tinged guitar work.
With co-founders Tom Elbern and Mic Jogwer trading vocal and songwriting duties, the album is rich with dynamic contrasts: the propulsive drive of “Walking on Both Sides,” the brooding restraint of “When the Hammer Comes Down,” and the anthemic pulse of “That Was You” all coalesce into a cohesive emotional arc. More than just a debut, If Two Worlds Kiss is a fully realized vision—an essential listen that helped shape the sonic vocabulary of darkwave and deathrock to come.
Now reissued by Dais Records and remastered by Josh Bonati, this long-overdue vinyl edition preserves the original 1980s artwork in a deluxe 24pt reverse board jacket with Euro inner sleeve and printed lyrics. Includes the previously vinyl-unreleased bonus track “A Moment Sometimes.”
A milestone release—moody, melodic, and still mesmerizing nearly four decades later.
