First recorded in 1971, Music With Changing Parts is one of the foundational statements of American minimalism and a pivotal early work by Philip Glass. Performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble, it stretches across four side-long movements of amplified keyboards, winds and wordless voices, building a vast, shimmering architecture from small repeating cells that shift almost imperceptibly over time.

Where Glass's earliest pieces were austere and rigorously additive, this is the moment his music began to bloom. Sustained tones and overtones rise up out of the interlocking parts, sung by the players themselves, giving the whole record an enveloping, almost psychoacoustic glow. It is hypnotic and physical, music designed to reshape the room it fills.

A crucial link between Glass's short early works and the epic Music in Twelve Parts, it remains one of the most immersive listens in the minimalist canon.

This Superior Viaduct edition presents the work across two LPs in a gatefold sleeve, mastered at Dubplates & Mastering and pressed at Pallas. Recorded 1971, reissued 2026.
