Peso Pluma - Génesis

In 2023, a kid from Guadalajara turned corridos tumbados into a global phenomenon. Génesis, Peso Pluma's breakthrough album, is the record that did it, taking a regional-Mexican tradition rooted in acoustic guitars and brass and running it straight to the top of the worldwide charts. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, a startling showing for a Spanish-language corridos record, and made Peso Pluma one of the most streamed artists on the planet.

The sound is the whole story. Across these tracks, Peso Pluma fuses the requinto runs and tuba basslines of regional Mexican music with the swagger and cadence of trap, and stacks the guest list with the movement's biggest names. "77" pulls in Eladio Carrión, "PRC" teams him with Natanael Cano, and "Tulum" brings Grupo Frontera into the fold, while "Lady Gaga" became a genuine crossover smash and gave Peso Pluma his first number one on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

More than a hit record, Génesis was a turning point for an entire genre. It won the Grammy for Best Música Mexicana Album and helped drag corridos tumbados from regional radio into the global mainstream, opening doors for a whole generation of artists working in the style.
