Orgone - Beyond The Sun

Los Angeles funk institution Orgone has been cutting records since the late 1990s, backing hip-hop artists and touring with Al Green and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings along the way. Beyond The Sun introduced a new frontwoman, Adryon de León, and her powerful voice gave the band one of the strongest records of their career.

The band keep the sound warm and vintage, with crisp drums, fat bass and greasy keys cut the way classic funk records were. "Don't Push Your Luck" opens with a stomping groove, "Losin' You" and "Take You Higher" bring the dancefloor energy, "Meat Machine" digs into a heavy early-1970s swagger, and "Sabi" closes with a Latin-rock flourish. Instrumental cuts sit comfortably alongside the vocal tracks, keeping the whole thing moving across four sides.

It is a must for anyone into the modern soul and funk revival, and a perfect entry into the band's catalog.
