A haunting, posthumous tribute to the ghosts of the past.
For their twelfth studio outing, Opéra Multi Steel returns to the original trio formation that started it all: Patrick L. Robin, Franck Lopez, and Catherine Marie. Conceived in the wake of profound personal loss—the passing of the members' mothers in 2018—D’une Pierre deux Tombes ("Killing Two Birds with One Stone" / "Two Graves with One Stone") is a macabre pun and a deeply moving sound testament. It is a work of catharsis, designed to exorcise fate and facilitate resilience through the power of darkwave.
The album finds the band exploring their darkest sonic territory to date. While the trademark vocal harmonies and synth-pop elegance remain, they are now imbued with a persistent sadness and nostalgia. Themes of death and vanity dominate tracks like "Cimeterre" and "L’Après-Mort," while strings and driving "Future Pop" rhythms reinforce the tragic mood of the concept. It is an unapologetic look into the silence of the grave, rendered with the band’s signature French coldwave sophistication.
