The "weirdest" chapter of the OMS legacy, unearthed in a stunning smoke-colored repress.
Originally self-produced on the band’s own Orcadia Machina label in 1988, A Contresens stands as the most experimental and unfiltered moment in the Opéra Multi Steel discography. The title—loosely translating to "in the wrong way"—serves as a confession of the band's refusal to follow the musical trends of the late 80s. Instead of playing it safe after their legendary debut Cathédrale, they chose a path of total creative freedom, resulting in a record that was, in hindsight, a brilliant "commercial suicide."
Released via Wave Records and Young and Cold Records, this 35th Anniversary edition brings the album back to vinyl for the first time in over twenty years. The sound is a disconcerting, heterogeneous mix of electronic and acoustic textures—drum machines and hyper-flanged bass meeting the ancient sounds of recorders, dulcimers, and psalteries. With lyrics rooted in symbolist poetry and automatic writing, it remains a darkwave masterwork that defies categorization.
