New Edition - Candy Girl (LP / Candy Swirl Vinyl)
When Maurice Starr saw a young Roxbury, Massachusetts vocal group at a talent show at Dorchester's Strand Theater in the early '80s, he saw the second coming of the Jackson 5. They came in second that night, but they won a deal with Starr and Streetwise Records.
Starr named them New Edition and started recording with the boys, all under 15, the next day. Their first single, "Candy Girl," shot to number one on the Billboard R&B chart and led to this debut album. New Edition went on to launch Bobby Brown's solo career and Bell Biv DeVoe, and served as the template for every boy band that followed.
Streetwise reissues this pivotal record on Candy Swirl colored vinyl exclusively for RSD Black Friday.
