Minimal Compact - Creation Is Perfect

Creation Is Perfect is an album of newly recorded versions of classic tracks by a classic band—and yet so much more. Formed in Amsterdam in 1980, Minimal Compact emerged as part of the original post-punk explosion. The band developed a singular sound: propulsive rhythms, spacious bass lines, rich keyboard textures, mesmeric guitar patterns, and vocal melodies laced with Middle Eastern inflection. They sounded like nothing that had come before, and quickly earned a reputation for intense, unpredictable, high-energy performances.

Now, the band has reunited with longtime collaborator and producer Colin Newman (Wire) to finally capture these songs in their full brilliance. Several of their signature tracks have been re-recorded using a mix of live and studio-tooled performances.

The result is an album that radiates vitality and class. Highlights include the live favorite “Statik Dancin’,” with its barbed hooks and irresistible groove; the bright, tender optimism of “My Will,” showcasing Malka Spigel’s evocative vocal; and the tightly wound, hypnotic guitar lines of “Take Me Away,” edging toward ecstatic mania. The album closes with a brand-new track, “Holy Roller”—a thrilling climax to a powerful collection.
