One of the most singular and uncompromising records in the history of dark ambient music, finally arriving on vinyl for the first time. Originally released in 1998 as a 99-track continuous CD, Moments is the work of Mick Harris, the former Napalm Death drummer whose post-grindcore explorations under the Lull name stand as some of the most extreme and genuinely immersive music in the isolationist ambient tradition. This vinyl edition expands the work to 100 cuts, adding bonus material from the original recording sessions and presenting the complete sonic experience in a format that suits it perfectly.
The music is as far from Harris's grindcore origins as it is possible to get while remaining recognizably rooted in the same obsession with texture, weight, and physical impact. Staggeringly beautiful glacial sub-bass sounds, deep ambient resonance, and thunderous low-end tones move and shift with an almost imperceptible slowness, the subtle changes accumulating over time into something that feels genuinely tectonic. As Carrion Kind described it, tectonic rumblings and icy sound slivers move and swirl around each other, slipping into the spaces between molecules, breaking apart the physical body in preparation for rearrangement. Warm and organic one moment, machine-cold and paralyzing the next, the record moves between expansive emptiness and claustrophobic terror with a hypnotic, soothing quality that never entirely displaces its lingering sense of dread.
This is sound as a vehicle toward dimensions previously unknown. Essential for devotees of Mick Harris's work under Scorn and Fret, and for anyone serious about the outer limits of isolationist and dark ambient music.
