Lords Of Acid - Voodoo-U [CD]

For their second album, Lords Of Acid signed to Rick Rubin's American Recordings and got heavier. Released in 1994, Voodoo-U kept the band's outrageous sex-and-drugs lyrics fully intact but traded much of Lust's acid house bounce for a harder, guitar-driven industrial sound, with Ruth McArdle stepping in on lead vocals.

Lead single "The Crablouse" is a cheerfully disgusting ode to pubic lice that still shows up in unexpected places, from a Top Gear special to the teaser trailer for Sucker Punch. Hollywood came calling for more: "Young Boys" appeared in Virtuosity and "Drink My Honey" in Strange Days. "Marijuana In Your Brain," "Out Comes The Evil," and the title track round out the record.

Even the cover caused a stir. Hot-rod artist Coop painted the artwork, and it was issued in both censored and uncensored versions. Critics gave the album positive reviews, even if it never quite matched the universal praise that greeted Lust.

This Special Remastered Band Edition, released by Metropolis Records in 2017, adds four bonus tracks selected from the album's single B-sides.
