King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Alien Metal

Album number twenty-eight, and this time King Gizzard have set the controls for the dark heart of dance music. Alien Metal grew directly out of the rave shows the band started playing in 2025, and it was sculpted largely on Eurorack modular synthesizers rather than the guitars most people still associate with them.

Across eight tracks the band trade riffs for pulse. "Sapience" opens it, the title track and "Superheavy, Supercritical" push into genuinely punishing territory, and "Rapid Alpha Decay" and "Atomic Collapse" close things out somewhere between techno and the microtonal psychedelia they have spent a decade refining. It is a hard left turn even by the standards of a band whose whole identity is hard left turns, and it works because they commit completely.

The physical release is as considered as the music. The 180-gram record is made from 100 percent recycled plastic using injection-mold technology, which uses substantially less energy than conventional pressing and makes this one of the most sustainable LPs anyone has put out.

It ships in a high-gloss jacket inside a fully recycled protective overbag, with a large double-sided poster. Out September 25, 2026.
