Nobody Loves You More is Kim Deal’s debut album under her own name, though it’s far from her first creative statement. Back in 2013, she self-released a five-part, ten-song 7" vinyl series, and her musical roots stretch back to the late 80s with her groundbreaking work in Pixies and The Breeders. The seeds for this record were planted with two of its oldest songs, “Are You Mine?” and “Wish I Was,” written and recorded in 2011 and included in that 2013 series. These early tracks came shortly after Deal wrapped up Pixies’ Lost Cities Tour and relocated to Los Angeles.

Over the years, the album took shape piece by piece, with contributions from a wide circle of collaborators. Breeders past and present — Mando Lopez, Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, and Britt Walford — are joined by new musical allies like Jack Lawrence of The Greenhorns, and Savages members Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan. Recording sessions happened over the span of several years, culminating with the final track, “A Good Time Pushed,” captured in November 2022 by legendary engineer and close friend Steve Albini.

The result is a sonically versatile and infectious collection that celebrates Deal’s unique artistry. It tips its hat to her storied history in alternative music while showing why her cultural influence remains as strong as ever. Even a new generation of artists has taken notice — Olivia Rodrigo, who invited Deal and The Breeders to support her Guts World Tour, told a sold-out Madison Square Garden crowd, “I thought Kim was the coolest girl in the world. I’m very inspired by them and everything they stand for. They are absolutely iconic.” Nobody Loves You More feels like both a bold new chapter and a natural continuation of a career defined by fearless creativity.
