Twenty studio albums into a career built on filling football stadiums, Kenny Chesney made a record about restlessness. Born, released in March 2024 and co-produced with longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, leans much harder on the wandering side of his writing than on the beach-party material that made him a household name. He has described it as a record he had been circling for years, and that shows in the shape of it.
The title track lays out the theme plainly: some people simply cannot sit still, and the album spends fifteen tracks turning that over. "Just To Say We Did" and "Take Her Home" were the singles and carry the singalong energy his audience shows up for. "This Too Shall Pass" and "One Lonely Island" pull in the other direction, quieter and more inward than most of what he has put on radio. "Wherever You Are Tonight" closes it, and it closes it well.
For a catalogue artist this deep in, the easy move is another summer record. Born is not that. It is Chesney writing about the cost of a life spent moving, which is a subject he happens to know something about, and it plays as the most personal thing he has released in a long while.
