Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped in Red [Red]

Kelly Clarkson had been threatening to make a Christmas album for years, and when Wrapped in Red finally arrived in 2013 it sounded like something she had been saving up for. Produced with Greg Kurstin, it borrows the wall-of-sound grandeur of Phil Spector's classic holiday productions and pairs it with one of the biggest voices in pop, and it quickly became her signature seasonal release.

Clarkson co-wrote much of the record, and the originals are what made it stick. "Underneath the Tree," with its sleigh bells, saxophone and Motown drive, has become a modern standard in its own right, and the title track and "Winter Dreams (Brandon's Song)" show off her quieter side. The standards are handled with real care: Ronnie Dunn joins her for "Baby, It's Cold Outside," and the closing "Silent Night" brings in Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood for a three-part harmony send-off.

More than a decade on, it still sounds like the most fully realized holiday album of the Idol generation.

This RCA LP presents the fourteen-track album on red vinyl, a nod to its title and its unforgettable cover.
