A "promethean" transmission of modular synthesis and raw, unscripted emotion.
Released on November 19, 2021, Machinate is a high-contrast detour into the "hand-crafted" heart of the IAMX musical cosmos. Moving away from traditional song structures, Chris Corner presents an experimental modular album born out of the isolation of the 2020 lockdowns. Recorded live in his Pioneertown, CA studio, the record captures five core performances shared in real-time with the IAMX community—a series of "strange and mesmerizing" sonic explorations that find the "beauty of dissonance" within the patch cables and voltage-controlled oscillators.
This is a "pure" and uncompromising look at the creative thrust behind the project. Machinate balances the mechanical, rhythmic grit of modular synthesis with Corner’s signature "celestial" oratory, resulting in an atmospheric tension that feels both deeply intimate and utterly "offworld." From the pulsating, industrial-lite sequences to the sprawling, cinematic soundscapes, the album documents a musician curiously exploring the frontiers of his own sonic universe.
