By 2017 High-Functioning Flesh had spent five years dragging EBM out of the archive and back onto a sweaty floor, and Culture Cut is the record where Susan Subtract and Greg Vand finally got the balance exactly right. Eight tracks, no filler, every one of them built on hardware that sounds like it is being physically wrestled into shape.
"Talk About" opens with the kind of sequencer line Portion Control would have been proud of, and Subtract's vocals — barked, distorted, more punk than industrial — keep the whole thing from tipping into pastiche. "Gone Home" and "Provoke The Wound" are the dancefloor cuts; "Suffered Collapse" closes the record with something colder and more mechanical. Mastered by Bonati Mastering for Dais.
Los Angeles electro-punk at its most physical, and one of the strongest entries in the Dais catalog from that era.
