Hide - Spit Or Swallow Every Soul Will Taste Death

Chicago's HIDE have spent a decade making some of the most genuinely unnerving music in American underground electronics, and this one arrives with no interest in easing anybody in. Heather Hannoura delivers her lyrics with Old Testament fury pointed at very modern atrocities, while Seth Sher's programming lurches between brutalist techno, sound collage, and outright noise. Seven tracks, twenty-nine minutes, no wasted motion.

Released September 11, 2025 on Get Better Records, it is also the band's most stylistically restless record. "Rebel In The Soul" opens on sampled and heavily processed industrial thrash guitar that sits closer to Ministry than anything in the HIDE catalog, then dissolves into Sher's signature pummeling rhythm programming. "Deeper than Death (here on earth) I DESTROY" is a wall of bright feedback squall under Hannoura's high, mocking sing-song. The whole thing is bracketed by corrupted reworkings of the Moonlight Sonata and Schubert's "Ave Maria," which tells you plenty about the band's ongoing fixation on beauty as something that can be defiled or weaponized.

Personal trauma, religion, the body, and social violence blur together here with no clean dividing lines, all of it functioning as ritual in search of catharsis. Longtime followers will recognize the intensity. Everyone else should hold on.

This edition pairs the album LP with a bonus 7" carrying two exclusive tracks, "SUFFER" and "I LICK THE BLADE CLEAN," neither available on the standard release. The strongest entry point HIDE have offered yet, and an uncompromising one.
