Five years after Demon Days, Gorillaz returned in 2010 with Plastic Beach, their most ambitious album yet: a concept record set on an island made of the world's floating garbage, with a guest list that reads like a dream festival lineup.
Snoop Dogg welcomes you in, Mos Def and Bobby Womack power the slinky "Stylo," De La Soul and Gruff Rhys bounce through "Superfast Jellyfish," Lou Reed drawls over "Some Kind of Nature" and Mark E. Smith snarls on "Glitter Freeze." At the heart of it all is Damon Albarn's melancholy, with "On Melancholy Hill" and "Empire Ants" among the loveliest songs he has written.
Lush, synth-heavy and endlessly detailed, it has only grown in stature and is now widely considered one of the band's finest albums.
This reissue is part of a series marking 25 years of Gorillaz and is pressed on gradient color vinyl as a double LP.
