Released in 2011, Winter Garden is a luminous collaboration between Italian electronic producer Eraldo Bernocchi, American ambient pioneer Harold Budd, and Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie. The three had previously worked together on film music, and here they extend that partnership into a full-length of hushed, weightless soundscapes.
Across ten tracks — from the opening "Don't Go Where I Can't Find You" to the drifting "Stay With Me" and "South Of Heaven" — Budd's spare, echoing piano floats through Guthrie's reverb-soaked guitar and Bernocchi's subtle electronics. The result is deeply melancholic and serene, recalling the ethereal beauty of the Cocteaus' The Moon and the Melodies.
