Released in 2008, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is the fourth studio album from Coldplay and a bold artistic reinvention. Produced by Brian Eno, the record trades the band's earlier restraint for vivid color, orchestral sweep, and adventurous arrangements inspired by art, revolution, and mortality.

Its chart-topping title track — with its unmistakable string riff — became one of the biggest songs of the decade, while "Violet Hill," "Lost!," and "Life in Technicolor" round out the band's most ambitious and acclaimed work to that point. The album won the Grammy for Best Rock Album and topped charts around the world.
