Available for the first time in over 35 years, White Souls in Black Suits is a seminal artifact of the original industrial era. Originally released in 1980 as a limited-run cassette on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records, this debut captured Clock DVA at their most primal and experimental. Led by the visionary Adi Newton, the group emerged from Sheffield alongside peers like Cabaret Voltaire, crafting a sound that blurred the lines between mutant funk, noir jazz, and coldwave electronics.
Reissued via The Grey Area of Mute, this 2025 edition has been meticulously remastered and expanded into a double vinyl set. Recorded at Cabaret Voltaire's legendary Western Works studio, the album is a masterclass in atmospheric decay—loosely structured, largely improvised, and steeped in themes of surveillance and psychological obsession. This is an essential document of the "early morphology" of a band that would go on to redefine electronic music.
