Chelsea Wolfe - The Dark [Indie Exclusive]

Chelsea Wolfe has spent fifteen years refusing to sit still. She has made folk records, doom records, industrial records and records that sound like all three at once, and the only constant has been a voice that seems to arrive from somewhere behind the music. The Dark follows 2024's She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She and continues the work she began there of writing from a place of clarity rather than dread.

The textures are heavy but the songs are direct. "Cold" and "Seethe" open with the low, deliberate pulse that has become her signature, electronics and guitar occupying the same murky space. "Halo" and the title track let the arrangements thin out until her voice carries everything. "Death Is Not The End" and closer "Dancer In The Sky" resolve the record into something closer to release than resignation, which is new territory for a writer who built her reputation on the opposite.

For all the gothic trappings that follow her around, Wolfe has always been a songwriter first. The Dark is the album that makes that hardest to miss.
