Charli xcx - Number 1 Angel

When her third album stalled in early 2017, Charli XCX did not wait around. She and A. G. Cook of PC Music cut a full mixtape in a matter of weeks and put it out that March. Number 1 Angel was the first real look at the restless, futuristic pop that would come to define the second half of her career.

Across ten tight tracks, Charli trades big radio choruses for glossy, warped productions and a rotating cast of guests. "3AM (Pull Up)" with MØ glides on sleek synths, "Babygirl" brings in electro-pop pioneer Uffie, "Lipgloss" lets CupcakKe steal the show, and "Dreamer" pairs her with Raye and Starrah. Cook's executive production ties it all together with a sound that is playful, slightly alien and impossibly catchy.

Fans now treat it as the first part of a pair with Pop 2, released later the same year, and the start of the run that led straight to Brat.

This reissue presents the full mixtape on a single LP of 140-gram black vinyl.
