Cecil Payne - Zodiac [RSD Black Friday 2026]

Cecil Payne - Zodiac (LP / 180g Vinyl)

For collectors, Strata-East's Dolphy Series is the gold standard of 1970s jazz, curated and produced by the great Clifford Jordan. Zodiac, the third installment, belongs to baritone saxophonist Cecil Payne, a veteran of bands led by Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and J.J. Johnson.

Payne is joined by a remarkable lineup: Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Wynton Kelly on piano, Wilbur Ware on bass and Albert "Tootie" Heath on drums. It's deep, swinging, soulful jazz from players who helped define the music.

This edition is cut directly from the original analog tapes, mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI. It comes in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket with never-before-seen photos and new liner notes, plus a limited Strata-East Dolphy Series postcard set with artwork exclusive to RSD Black Friday 2026.
