The pressure of following up a six-million-selling debut would have broken lesser bands. Bush answered with one of the boldest moves of their career. For Razorblade Suitcase, released in 1996, Gavin Rossdale, Robin Goodridge, Dave Parsons, and Nigel Pulsford enlisted Steve Albini, the notoriously uncompromising producer behind landmark records from Pixies, Nirvana, and PJ Harvey, and made a record that was rawer, darker, and more abrasive than anything their newfound mainstream audience might have expected.
It worked. Razorblade Suitcase entered the US Billboard 200 at number one on the strength of lead single "Swallowed," eventually achieving double platinum certification and proving that the band were far more than a one-album phenomenon. Where Sixteen Stone had been polished and hook-driven, its successor leaned into tension and atmosphere, Albini's stark, unadorned production giving the record a weight and physicality that rewarded repeated listening.
This limited edition green 180g double vinyl pressing of Razorblade Suitcase: In Addition expands the original album with four bonus tracks, housed in a gatefold sleeve. An essential piece of 1990s rock history, presented in the format it deserves.
