Beabadoobee - Pylon [Indie Exclusive]

Pylon is named for the electricity towers that line every highway on earth, the spindly steel things Beatrice Laus kept watching from tour buses while she felt further from home than she ever had. Written on the road behind This Is How Tomorrow Moves, the Rick Rubin produced record that gave her a first UK number one album in 2024, this is a set of songs she describes as diary entries she never expected to say out loud.

It is also the loudest and most direct record she has made. Where her last album polished the edges, Pylon runs straight at classic grunge, midwest emo, and the kind of 90s radio rock that lived on FM dials between Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins. Hayley Williams sings on "Nothing to Prove," an anthem about taking your power back from fair-weather friends. "Powerlines" is the moody centerpiece, featuring Turnstile's Brendan Yates alongside Pinegrove's Evan Stephens Hall, Chino Moreno of Deftones, and Title Fight's Shane Moran. Matty Healy and George Daniel of the 1975 handled production on "Write Me a Letter." Lead single "Sun Has Set" opens the fourteen track album on pure spite, a song she calls petty tunnel vision aimed at someone who never had to hear it.

Six years out from the bedroom demos that started all this, Laus is playing arenas and still writing like the stakes are personal. Pylon is the record where the guitars finally match the honesty.
