A panoramic 18-track masterpiece of memory, melody, and shoegaze evolution.
Flicker is the breathtaking second solo album from Ride guitarist and songwriter Andy Bell, and it finds him at the absolute height of his creative powers. Following the success of his debut, The View From Halfway Down, this 18-track double album is a sprawling, forward-looking record that isn't afraid to glance back. The album’s genesis lies in sessions recorded at the studio of his Beady Eye and Oasis bandmate Gem Archer; Bell returned to these "flickering" stems years later, adding new lyrics and melodies to create a conversation between his 50-year-old self and the "teenage me" who helped define the original shoegaze sound.
Across four sides of Clear Vinyl, Flicker journeys through a dizzying array of styles: from the reflective, Byrdsian 12-string jangle of "Something Like Love" to the joyous, refracted loops of "Jenny Holzer B. Goode" and the fuzz-laden late-60s balladeering of "Love Is The Frequency." The record is littered with "musical breadcrumb trails," including its cover art—a previously unseen Joe Dilworth outtake from the photo sessions for Ride’s 1990 classic Nowhere. Mixed with a modern psychedelic sheen and mastered for maximum fidelity, this 2026 restock is a meditative and celebratory document of an artist finally hitting his solo velocity.
