The explosive birth of Zamrock, restored from the original master tapes.
While the massive We Intend To Cause Havoc! box set may be sold out, the legend of Zambia’s premier psych-rock ensemble lives on. As part of a series of individual archival reissues, Now-Again Records presents the band’s 1972 debut, Introduction. This is the record that started it all—the first commercial album released in the wake of Zambia's newly independent recording industry. Led by the magnetic Emmanuel "Jagari" Chanda, whose stage presence and name were a direct "Africanized" tribute to Mick Jagger, WITCH (We Intend To Cause Havoc) took the sounds of the British Invasion and the grit of American funk and forged something entirely new on the streets of Kitwe.
Introduction is a short, sharp blast of exuberant garage rock and "psyche-fuzz" brilliance. Eschewing the traditional rhythms that would define their later work, this debut finds the band channeling the raw energy of The Rolling Stones, James Brown, and The Sonics. From the organ-drenched title track to the infectious, jangling hooks of "Like A Chicken" and the heavy-duty groove of "No Time," the album captures a young band at their most spontaneous. This 2025 repress is presented on striking Opaque Red vinyl, featuring "nigh-perfect" audio remastered from the original master tapes. It is the essential starting point for any journey into the fuzz-drenched world of Zamrock
