VNV Nation - Electric Sun

VNV Nation return with Electric Sun, their eleventh full-length and one of the most emotionally direct records the Irish electronic duo has made. Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson built this one slowly and on their own terms: much of 2019 went into constructing a new studio from scratch, a frustrating, drawn-out process that ended up giving the band space to rethink how they worked, retool their label, and let ideas accumulate rather than force them. When they finally sat down to record, what came out was a departure from the anthemic futurepop they're best known for, reaching toward an intensity and vulnerability they hadn't put on record before.

The album moves through change, loss, love, and the slow work of figuring out what actually matters, filtering all of it through VNV's signature blend of orchestral synth work and driving dance rhythms. The title track "Electric Sun" opens things with a widescreen, cinematic pulse, while "Prophet" and "Before the Rain" lean into the soaring, uplifting melodies that have always been Harris's strength. "Run," "Sunflare," and "At Horizon's End" push further into the record's emotional core, and closer "Under Sky" brings the whole arc down to a quiet landing. Across twelve tracks and a little over an hour, the record shifts fluidly between floor-ready energy and something closer to reflection, holding both without losing its shape.

This pressing lands on Curacao Blue transparent vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve with a 24x24 poster included, limited to just 1500 copies worldwide. For a record built around change and reflection, it's a fitting physical package, and a limited one worth grabbing before it's gone.
