The Crow - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Brandon Lee died on set in March 1993, and by the time The Crow reached theatres the following year the film and its soundtrack had become inseparable from that fact. The album arrived on Atlantic in March 1994, went straight to number one on the Billboard 200, and has since been certified triple platinum. It is one of the very few soundtracks that people still buy for the music alone.

Jolene Cherry compiled and sequenced it, and the roster reads like a snapshot of what alternative radio actually sounded like in 1994 before the format calcified. The Cure contribute "Burn," written for the film and among the best things Robert Smith wrote in that decade. Nine Inch Nails cover Joy Division's "Dead Souls." Stone Temple Pilots turn in "Big Empty," Rage Against The Machine give up "Darkness," and Pantera tear through Poison Idea's "The Badge." Helmet, Violent Femmes, Rollins Band and The Jesus And Mary Chain fill out the middle, and Medicine's "Time Baby III" hides Elizabeth Fraser in the background vocals.

Jane Siberry closes it with "It Can't Rain All The Time," and thirty years later the sequencing still lands exactly where it was aimed.
