Tricky - Different When It's Silent

Six years after Fall To Pieces, the album Tricky made in the wake of his daughter's death, the Bristol producer returns with his fifteenth studio record and first full-length under his own name since. Different When It's Silent arrives in 2026 on his own False Idols imprint, and it reads as a continuation of that earlier grief rather than a departure from it.

Most of the album is shaped by new collaborator Mitch Sanders, whose falsetto hovers above Tricky's cracked, half-whispered delivery on nearly every track. The pairing gives the record its particular tension, sweetness stretched over something raw. "I'm Yours" drifts through spectral alternative territory, "So Cold" pushes into electro-tinged dance-rock, and the Radana-assisted "Radana" turns hard toward grime. Elsewhere "Be Still In The Pain" and the closing "Out Of Place" pull back into the murk that has defined his work since Maxinquaye.

Thirty years into a career spent refusing to repeat himself, Tricky remains one of the few artists from the trip-hop era still making records that sound genuinely restless. This one is intimate, unsettled, and hard to shake.
