Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - No Sleep Til L.A. [Zoetrope]

Before the hits, there was a hungry young band out of Gainesville working out who they were. No Sleep Til L.A. captures the sonic formation of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in their white-hot 1970s era, drawn from unheard and rare songs from Petty's first eight years as a recording artist.

The twelve tracks include seven previously unreleased recordings and five rarities, all newly mixed from the original multitracks by Ryan Ulyate, Petty's longtime engineer. Highlights include the unreleased Heartbreakers songs "Parade of Loons" and "Sin City," fresh mixes of the earliest Mudcrutch recordings "Up in Mississippi Tonight," "Depot Street" and "Wild Eyes," and never-before-heard gems like "Unheard of Kind of Hero" and "Satisfy Yourself."

It is a vivid portrait of the songwriter Petty was becoming, full of the jangle, bite and heartland melody that would soon make him a star.

Pressed on 180-gram zoetrope vinyl, this limited edition comes in a clear vinyl sleeve with a backer card.
