The Beatles - Abbey Road [Anniversary Edition]

The Beatles knew they were coming apart when they walked back into EMI Studios in the summer of 1969, and they decided to go out the right way. Abbey Road was the last album the four of them recorded together, and it plays like a band determined to leave nothing on the table.

Side one is a showcase of four distinct songwriters at full strength. John Lennon's "Come Together" slinks in on Paul McCartney's bassline, George Harrison delivers "Something," a love song Frank Sinatra famously admired, and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" grinds toward its famous abrupt cutoff. Side two opens with Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun" before the celebrated medley stitches song fragments into a sixteen-minute suite that ends, fittingly, with "The End."

Produced by George Martin with engineer Geoff Emerick, Abbey Road brought Moog synthesizer textures and a warm, layered sound to the band's final statement. Its zebra crossing cover remains one of the most imitated images in popular culture, and the album is routinely ranked among the greatest ever made.

This anniversary edition presents the stereo album mix created by Giles Martin and Sam Okell from the original eight-track session tapes, pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. The clearest look yet at the Beatles' farewell.
