Tempers - Private Life

With their third full-length album, Private Life, the New York-based duo Tempers—Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper—move beyond the strobe-lit dancefloors of their debut to explore a moodier, more introspective landscape. Following their ambitious 2018 conceptual collaboration with architect REM Koolhaas, this record sees the duo returning to their signature "dark pop" roots, but with a newfound emotional depth that deconstructs the banality of modern existence into something hauntingly graceful.

The album opens with the lonely incantation of "Capital Pains," a track that perfectly captures the surreal isolation of the human desire to envy and the endless chase of our own insecurities. Throughout the record, Golestaneh’s instinctual vocals weave through Cooper’s rigorous, driving electronics, creating a "telepathic" sonic experience. From the dramatic, crawling dirge of "Peace of Mind" to the somber, downtempo dream-pop found in "Sleep," Private Life stands alone as a fictionalized reimagining of despair, love, and hope.
