Starcleaner Reunion - Umbrella [Limited Edition Acid Splatter]

Starcleaner Reunion started out in Springfield, New Jersey before settling in New York City, and their EPs Club Estrella and Cafe Life earned them a reputation as one of the most promising young indie bands in the city. Umbrella is their debut full-length, released by Take Care Records.

The songs are woozy and gently psychedelic, full of shifting rhythms and dreamy guitar haze. Lead single "Never Odd Or Even" alternates between a motorik pulse and 5/4 time, and the band describe it as a song about the anticipation of sharing secrets, the moment private thoughts become something you hand to someone else. Earlier single "Weather Instrument" and closer "Lay On Plastic Moment" show the same knack for turning small, specific feelings into hazy, wide-open songs.

It is a confident, beautifully textured debut from a band clearly in no hurry, and a strong pick for fans of dream pop and adventurous indie rock.
