Originally recorded in 1987 by Steve Albini and released in 1989, Tweez is the sharp, strange, and wholly unique debut from Louisville’s Slint. While their follow-up, Spiderland, would go on to define the post-rock genre, Tweez is where their "economy and precision" were first forged. As Steve Albini famously noted, Slint was that rare band willing to play just one or two notes at a time—or sometimes nothing at all—creating a sparse, tight sound that felt like a "sudden outburst of uncontrolled emotion."
To celebrate the album's 35th anniversary, this edition has been meticulously remastered by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission of Burma) at Chicago Mastering Studio. Sourced directly from the original analog master tapes, this remaster restores the raw, aggressive noise and anxious brilliance of the initial sessions, allowing the interplay between David Pajo’s guitar sheen and Britt Walford’s emphatic percussion to hit with newfound clarity.
This 2024–2025 reissue is available as a 180-gram heavyweight vinyl pressing. The album’s eccentricities remain intact, from the song titles (named after the band members' parents and Walford's dog, "Rhoda") to the parodied Saab logos on the labels. Whether you choose the classic black vinyl or the limited Red Vinyl variant, this remaster is the definitive way to experience the "casual malice" and heavy riffs of a band that was already light-years ahead of their time.
