Slayyyter wrote close to 200 songs chasing the follow-up to Troubled Paradise, and the ones that made Starfucker trade her old hyperpop chaos for something darker and more cinematic. Released in 2023, the album is a satirical, dramatized tour of Hollywood excess: drugs, vanity, celebrity worship and the people who orbit fame, filtered through the erotic thrillers she grew up obsessing over, from Blue Velvet to Body Double and Basic Instinct.
Working mostly with producer Nicopop, she built the record on brooding synths and '80s-tinged club production that borrows from techno and electroclash as much as from mainstream pop. "I Love Hollywood!" opens with a wink at her own move to Los Angeles, "Miss Belladonna" and "Erotic Electronic" are pure late-night dancefloor menace, and "Out of Time" closes on a sleek, bittersweet high. It became her first charting album, reaching the top ten of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and won over critics who heard it as one of the sharpest records about fame in years.
The deluxe edition, first issued digitally at the end of 2023, adds three songs at the front of the running order: the title track, produced with Cirkut and M-Phazes, "Makeup" featuring Lolo Zouaï, and "James Dean." Together they push the full album to 15 tracks.
This indie exclusive edition presents the complete deluxe album on a single LP pressed on red and pink colored vinyl.
